Remarkable Role of American Institute of Architects to Architectural Industry

Architecture is among the most ancient occupations in the world. The industry has evolved over time leaving a mark in the growth of civilization. With time, it became necessary to regulate the industry to not only create a distinction of the qualified architects but also to formalize the licensing laws applicable. Before this time, any person could emerge and claim to be an architect regardless of the required qualifications.

It was for this reason therefore that 13 high ranking architects came together in 1857 to form what is known today as the American Institute of Architects (AIA). With the institution, proper architectural training is availed to students and licensing laws governing the industry are instigated.

This institute has its headquarters in Washington, D.C, and it is now accessible to professions in architectural industry. It is mandated to offer relevant education in this field, bring about government advocacy and stir community development. It is also entrusted with uplifting the image on the public towards architecture.

To see this through, AIA has entrusted a very robust and supportive CEO, Robert Ivy. Robert has been very pivotal in seeing the vision of AIA come through. He holds a bachelor’s degree with English Major from the University of the South where he excelled with a cum laude. He has a very rich editorial background in his career path, a passion that is exhibited through his publication work at AIA. Ivy further proceeded to Tulane University where he acquired his master’s qualification in architecture.

Under the leadership of Robert Ivy, the American Institute of Architects has worked with peers in the industry in streamlining the building industry. The well outspoken leader has worked hard to support students in this industry via championing programs that sponsor architectural students. This is one of the moves that has built his reputation in the industry.

Ivy has also been faced with a burden of formalizing the various acceptable standards in architecture and to issue contact documents in line to this. The AIA is also mandated with conducting architectural researches as well as figuring out the impact the prevailing economic times may have on architectural industry.

The good governance of the institute has enabled it to achieve several milestones. Robert has indeed made this possible especially as far as positive public image is concerned. The award program has also boosted the professionalism in the industry as students strive to excel in architectural studies.
