Yes, me feeling strongly about his death is a good omen. If I didn’t feel bad about it, there would be no reason to expect a reader would. (Still, no guarantee there, but it’s a step in the right direction. )

I’m trying to create a webcomic right now, and even in these early stages, I can recognize that the characters are all different parts of me… of course, I do have favorites. But again, even though I’m still sketching things out, I’ve gotten really attached to everyone, and I couldn’t imagine killing anyone. But for the story to be realistic, hey, SOMEONE’S gotta croak… it’s like having a beloved pet, and you know they’ve gotta go someday, but you just try to put it out of mind.
I think it’s good to be attached to your story, though. It just makes it that much more real… to you, and therefore, the audience.

I’ve seen the film and read the book (not in that order).

I think it’s interesting to see how deep our affection for fictional characters can go. It tells something important about human nature, and for once, it’s something reassuring and encouraging.
